Hypermarkets

Hypermarkets are large stores offering a wide range of food and non-food items, low prices and targeted promotions. Hypermarkets offer a selection of 20,000 to 80,000 food and non-food products. They are intended to cater to a wide consumer taste and budget and boast abundant and lively marketplaces, with fresh food prepared on-site, a full range of services and low prices throughout the year. Carrefour claims to promote an inviting and family-friendly environment, designed for customer comfort. In some markets, the Group is developing wholesale stores, such as Atacadão, that are open to individual customers.

At the end of June 2017, Carrefour had 1,507 hypermarkets under banners, with 243 in France, 458 in the rest of Europe, 338 in Latin America, 370 in Asia, and 94 in other countries.

Supermarkets

The Group’s supermarkets claim to offer a wide and varied selection, displays with fresh produce and local products, an assortment of non-food products, attractive prices, and regular promotions. These selling points have made them a standard for grocery shopping in cities and rural areas. In stores ranging from 1,000 to 3,500 sq. m., the Group’s supermarkets promote everyday shopping under the Market and Bairro banners.

At the end of June 2017, Carrefour had 3,194 supermarkets under banners throughout the world, with 1,059 in France, 1,753 in the rest of Europe, 149 in Latin America, 43 in Asia, and 190 in other countries.

Convenience stores

Express, City, Contact, Montagne, Bio, Proxi, 8 à Hui, are banners designed for everyday shopping. The Carrefour Group asserts they offer modern convenience stores with products designed to meet the needs of local customers, with low prices and extended hours. They emphasize that this format is popular among customers and is galvanized by franchisees’ efforts.

The Group’s various banners range in size from 200 to 900 sq. m. and have high ambitions of becoming the standard for local convenience stores.

In total, at the end of June 2017, Carrefour had 7,180 convenience stores, with 4,237 in France, 2,378 in the rest of Europe, 485 in Latin America, 32 in Asia and 48 in other countries.

Cash & carry, and Hypercash stores

The various banners offer restaurateurs and other professionals a wide range of food and non-food products at wholesale prices. Products are displayed on pallets and are sold by unit or in bulk.

In total, by June of 2017, Carrefour had 171 Cash & Carry stores, with 143 in France, 13 in the rest of Europe, 2 in Asia and 13 in other countries.

Multi-channel retail

The Group continues to develop e-commerce and m-commerce (Mobile Commerce) solutions to enable its customers to shop anytime and anywhere. This digital service is being created based on customer experience, which offers the best understanding of usage and expectations.

Shop online and have it delivered

In some Group countries, e-commerce sites offer food and/or non-food products. These “cyber-markets” also have the benefit of quick delivery times and very competitive prices, promotions, and useful tips. The Group contends that every day in France, the carrefour.fr and ooshop.fr websites win over more customers seeking bargains and convenience. In addition, consumers can shop from their mobile phone using the applications Carrefour is developing.
